Weather
There was a vast array of weather this past week. The high was seventy-four degrees and the low was forty-three degrees. Throughout the week we had an overcast, clear skies, a chance of thunderstorms and rain, and today’s weather is calling to be partly cloudy with a 20% chance of precipitation.
Jokes
Q: Why does Snoop Dog need an umbrella?
A: Fo’Drizzle
Q: When does it rain money?
A: When there is “change” in the weather.
It’s going to be drizzy outside. Expect a Lil Wayne.
Q: What goes up when the rain comes down?
A: An Umbrella
Excessive Rain
Rain is usually a good thing for an area. It waters crops, gives the air a fresh smell, and fills our lakes and rivers. Moreover, too much rain can be a bad thing. It floods athletic fields, makes driving more difficult, causes erosion and can flood and kill crops.
Baseball and soccer are currently in progress and they have had to spend hours working their field, and have had to cancel or reschedule games.
Also, all of this rain has made driving a hassle. It can blur your vision if you have bad windshield-wipers, and can cause you to hydroplane. In a ten year span in Tennessee there has been 595,900 car crashes due to just rain (according to the U.S. Department of Transportation). That’s double the amount of snow, sleet, and fog combined.
Lastly, excessive rain causes erosion and kills crops. The rain loosens and drags dirt into our rivers and lakes. This also pollutes our rivers that we get our drinking water from.
Crops love water but too much can rot them and introduce them to parasites and erosion
Holy Smokes BBQ
Chapel Hill is gradually becoming more and more populated which causes for more businesses to be built.
Holy Smokes BBQ just opened this past Wednesday, April 22nd. They cater, you are able to place an order for pick-up, and they also specialize in an original BBQ.
Holy Smokes BBQ is located in town right beside Las Fiestas, off of Nashville HWY.
Weather
Throughout the week there has been a constant rain percentage. There was a twenty percent chance of rain at the beginning of the week and from then on out the percentage rose until the weekend hit. The humidity level sky-rocketed to ninety-nine degrees, not helping the high of eighty-three degrees. The low of the week was forty-nine degrees. This weekend we will have a high of seventy-six degrees and a low of forty-seven degrees.
Local Businesses
This week’s local business will be our famous Mexican restaurant, Las Fiestas. This restaurant is one of the more popular places to eat in our community. Many families spend their night enjoying themselves and socializing with other people there while enjoying great food; in addition, it is right across the street from Forrest High School. Many students walk over after school to grab a bite to eat and hangout.
Las Fiestas is located at 317 N Horton Pkwy, Chapel Hill TN, 37034. To place an order for pick up or to call to ask for the hours call (931) 364-5258.
There have been three reviews of the restaurant as of now. There was one bad, one star review from Emptybelly in 2013, (she had nothing good to say about it) a four star review from bzimmerie in 2013, and a five star review from OtisMom in 2011.
There are only a handful of restaurants in Chapel Hill TN. Our local food joints are as follows: Sonic, Subway, Las Fiestas, Country Diner, Suzie’s Diner, and Jarrito Mex Grill.
Alumni Football Game

Any and all former football players between ages of 19-63 are able to play in this football game. Coach John’s states, “This is a great opportunity to include the alumni football players and we can continue to build on this here today.” Coach John’s also mentioned trying to play in the alumni game, although he wouldn’t be aware of his position until practice rolls around June 7th. This football game gives a chance for former football stars to play the game they love and dip into their memories of their glory days, while raising money for their community. The more tickets we sell, the more money we make for our community, so come down and support your former rocket players. http://www.alumnifootballusa.com/

Spring Break
Spring break is finally here! Starting tomorrow, Saturday, March 28, the break begins and we return to school April 7.
Hopefully everyone gets the opportunity to get out and go on a vacation, such as to the beach or go on a cruise. Even if you do not have the opportunity to get out, then relax at home. It is always a good idea to go to Henry Horton State Park to walk or run trails, maybe swim in the pool, or even swim in the Duck River!
During Spring break, it is important to have fun, but also to be safe. The top five things you should NOT do are the following:
This camp is open year round for your convenience. The camp is located at 1976 River Road, Chapel Hill TN, 37034. You can camp in a tent, bring your RV, and even bring your horses! There are plenty of activities for you and your family: horseshoes, badminton, volleyball, canoeing, trail hiking, wildlife viewing, picnicking, tubing, fishing, and rafting. Prices vary from the number of people, the hook-up, and electrical appliances.
Ghost Story
Chapel Hill is one of the most well known haunted locations in Tennessee.
Most of everyone knows or has been told the “ghost story” of Chapel Hill TN. We have decided to publish a version of the story for those who ever never heard of it.
Long ago, an older man known as the Signal Man was walking the rail road tracks just like every other night, but this night, he tripped and fell. He hit his head on the tracks and was knocked unconscious. Not knowing he was there, a train had ran over the man and decapitated him instantly. When investigators arrived, the head was missing but yet the lower half of the body was present.
According to the web site GhostsofAmerica, 9 out of 10 people see the light the man was holding to see the tracks. The light has been known to go side-to-side across the track.
Once someone spots the light, the vehicle they road in, will stall on the tracks. The people will see the light get closer and closer, also possibly seeing a figure of a train, until the light will pass through and the train figure disappears.
Melanie Jefferson states, “My mother told me about the time her and her friends went looking to see if they could see the man with the light and she said they actually saw it, and when they went to leave the car stalled over the tracks and the light came through the car along with a cold chill that raised every hair on their body and after it passed the car started. They never went back.”
This statement was also found on the web site GhostsOfAmerica.
Big Fluffy Dog Rescue
This rescue was founded by Jean Harrison. Recently, BFDR rented out a building located at 2413 Unionville Road, Chapel Hill TN, 37034, which used to be Lucky Dog Chrome.
Most of the dogs that are rescued come from kill shelters. On a daily basis the dogs are fed twice; once in the morning and once in the afternoon. The dogs constantly are being watered and walked. Also, every dog has two or more chew toys and most have bedding.
The workers also clean the floors, pick up feces, do the laundry (bedding, towels, mats…) keep up with the dogs’ medicine schedules, clean dishes (dogs bowls, including toys) and do any other new projects or activities that need to be taken care of for the better of the dogs.
The rescue decided it would be a wonderful idea to lay out pea gravel in the fenced off area where the dogs facilitate. The pea gravel is gentle on the dog’s feet and makes the area look well-kept. Although it is difficult to pick up the feces with it being amongst the pea gravel, BFDR thinks about the dogs care and safety before anything.
Sex Offenders
Sex offenders are a priority to watch for. Sex offenders can be young, old, tall, short...etc. When moving to a new area or even if you have been living in your home for over a year, it is important that you check for the number and areas sex offenders are located.
In the Chapel Hill area, there are seven sex offenders. Six out of the seven offenders are male.
The woman was charged with rape, and two of the men were charged with an attempt of rape.
The range of the sex offenders crosses from Nashville highway through Thick Road.
Special Events
The Journalism class has proposed an idea that the community should open a music night or open a poetry night within the week.
If this idea has any interest of the students or teachers feel free to give feedback on our twitter page, or even the Journalism class itself!
Chapel Hill Recreational Center?
What if the town were to gain a recreational center? Where would we want it to be located? What would we want the recreational center to contain?
If Chapel Hill were to gain a recreational center, more people might be persuaded to go outdoors. The recreational center would be a great way to unite the community.
Location is important for a community based center. The center should be in an area relevant for everyone; particularly not in the middle of town or on the outskirts of town. We suggest the recreational center be located off of the highway on Depot Street.
For a recreational center to be successful, it would need to have plenty of features and activities to attend. We propose that the center contain a pool, basketball courts, baseball and softball fields, a dog park, large play ground, Frisbee golf, picnic area, and possibly trails to hike.
The recreational center would be considered accommodating in all aspects. Children could play on the play ground, dogs could play with other dogs at the park, teenagers could have good competition on the fields, and adults could hike the trails!
Small Town Businesses
Though Chapel Hill is a small area, we tend to hold many businesses within our city limits.
A popular business named Middle Tennessee Remodeling is a family owned business that provides many unique services.
Dan Watters and his wife have had over 20 years of experience. Dan personally manages projects. With that being said, you can be sure of outstanding quality!
The business specializes in custom cabinetry, custom woodwork, handyman services, kitchen refacing, bathroom remodeling, tile work, decks/pergolas and CAD design.
If you were to move into a new home or you were to build a home for your family, you would like it to fit the families’ aspirations as whole as possible.
Another small business in Chapel Hill, that may not be as popular as most, is named Josh’s Small Engine Repair. They are open Monday-Friday from 8:00am-4:30pm. They carry products as well as providing services. Their webpage states “We have the latest Bob-Cat and Troy built line, parts and provides services” (joshssmallenginerepair.com).
Josh’s Small Engine Repair carries the latest RedMax line of pole trimmers for personal and commercial use. All of the following are provided with warranty work: RedMax, Troy-built, Kohler, Kawasaki, Poulan, and Weedeater. They also stock RedMax and Poulan chainsaws. Josh’s carries parts and services for multiple brands of turf equipment.
Josh’s Small Engine Repair is located at 2951 Virgil Beasley Road Chapel Hill, TN 37034. If you would like to contact, their number is (931) 364-3033.
All About Animals
March 10, 2015 around 5:45 pm, All about Animals, one of our two local veterinary offices, had a small fire that occurred. The motor to a fan had caught the air filter on fire. None of the animals or staff was harmed in any way. Firemen and officers arrived quickly and doused the fire. Despite the occurrence, the vet office is still open and continuing to care for their pets!
