Prom & Spring Break 2015
By Sarah Howell and Sheldon Boyce
This past week was Spring Break for Marshall County, and Forrest’s prom was the Friday before.
This year’s prom at Forrest was held in Spring Hill at the Union Hall on March 27th. The theme this year was Here’s To The Night and was centered around a night in Paris. The building was decorated with many Eiffel Tower replicas and was filled with students and teachers dancing the night away. The night was also filled with awesome tunes for students to dance and have fun saying farewell to the senior class. Teachers such as Mr. Burkett, Mrs. Brown, Mr. Johnson, and Mrs. Whitley and Officer Haynes also joined in on the dancing, doing the “Cha Cha Slide” and other dances. Travis Bryan and Brooklynne Bennett were crowned Prom King and Queen and danced to “All of Me” by John Legend. The night ended with the remaining seniors at prom dancing in a circle, in a flurry of goodbyes and emotions.
Spring Break was a week of rain, sun, tornadoes, and even some snow in places. While some might have been enjoying themselves on the hot and sunny beaches, others here were probably sitting at home in the rain on some days. People went on vacations, went shopping, hung out with many friends, and just relaxed. We also celebrated Easter on Sunday, April 5th. Families got together and made huge, delicious meals and participated in egg hunts.
Students returned to school on Tuesday, April 7th and are ready to finish out the school year in around a month.

Spring Break is coming next week on March 30th through April 6th. Spring Break is a great time off of school where students and teachers can relax and spend time with their families. This year, students will be able to celebrate prom, a week off, and Easter all within one week.
Although everyone enjoys being out of school, everyone does something different on Spring Break. Some people go on a family vacation to the beach or another popular destination; others, however, spend their break sitting at home relaxing alone, with friends, or with family. But, no matter what you do during your Spring Break, you should always be sure you are enjoying yourself and making it worth being out of school.
Not going on a vacation but also not sure what you are going to do over the break? Call one or a few of your friends and make plans to go somewhere like the movies to see the latest feature film, the mall to shop at your favorite stores, or something adventurous such as camping or going on a little road trip to somewhere close by. If you would rather spend time alone, you can search Netflix for the best movies and television shows, go outside and play with your pets, or master your favorite dessert recipes.
Spring Break is the time of the school year to enjoy yourself while having fun. So this Spring Break try something new so you will have exciting stories to tell when you return to school.
Prom 2015
As a student, prom is one of the most important nights of your high school experience. With Forrest’s prom coming up next Friday, March 27, it is important for students to remember to have fun and be safe on prom night.
Being safe on the night of prom is extremely important. Recently, it has become the night where teens make poor judgments and dangerous choices. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, for the past several years during prom weekend, approximately 300 teens have died in alcohol-related car accidents. Because of this statistic, Officer Haynes has introduced the Prom Promise to Forrest for students attending prom to sign. The promise says “I hereby commit to having a fun & safe prom celebration by NOT using alcohol, tobacco, or any other drugs. I will also encourage those with me to remain drug and alcohol free.”
Although safety is the biggest thing to remember, all students attending prom should have a fun night. Prom is a night filled with dancing, music, food, pictures, laughter, and friends. If you do not have a date, get a group of friends together and ride with each other. If you do have a date, then make sure you be safe and have fun, too. Choose a great place to eat, make reservations if needed. Arrive to the prom on time, and ultimately have a great night.
If you’re having worries about your prom night, don’t fret, go with a group of friends that you feel incredibly safe with and that you know you will have fun with. If you do this, you’re sure to have a great night no matter your plans.
Forrest’s prom is Friday, March 27. The doors will open at 7:30 and will be over at 11:00. Anyone that arrives later than 8:30, without prior notice, will not be allowed inside the prom. Arrive on time and be safe!
